About the UGDA

The national trade body for everyone making games in Uganda — founded in 2026 by studios who were tired of working alone.

Our story

An industry that grew up in scattered pieces

Games have been made in Uganda for well over a decade — mobile titles built in Kampala bedrooms, training simulations commissioned by NGOs, university projects that never found a publisher. What was missing was anything holding those pieces together.

The Uganda Game Developers Association was founded in 2026 by a group of studio leads, educators and freelancers who kept meeting the same problem: no shared voice with government, no reliable data on the sector’s size, and no obvious path for a talented graduate to enter the industry.

We are a non-profit membership organisation. Our funding comes from member subscriptions, partner contributions and project grants, and our priorities are set by the members themselves.

Our mission

Help the Ugandan games industry achieve its full potential.

We do that through four commitments:

  • Represent. One credible voice for the sector in policy rooms.
  • Connect. A community where knowledge and work circulate freely.
  • Grow. Skills, mentorship and routes into the industry.
  • Prove. Research that shows what the sector is actually worth.

Fees are banded by organisation size, with the student and solo band deliberately kept nominal. Current bands are listed on the membership page — and no application is refused on cost alone; talk to us.

No. We run regional chapters and most events are streamed or repeated outside the capital. Growing the industry beyond Kampala is an explicit goal, not an afterthought.

Member subscriptions, partner contributions and project-specific grants. We publish an annual financial summary to members.

Yes. Telecoms, banks, universities, hardware suppliers and public bodies all partner with us. Partnership is distinct from membership and does not carry a vote.
